Performance & Efficacité
What is the maximum speed that an electric motor can reach?
Our demonstrator (6.5 meter Four Winns) allowed us to reach 25 knots for 1 hour after its retrofit. The speed may vary depending on the specific type of electric motor chosen and the sailing conditions. We continue to constantly research and optimize our engines to offer you increasingly powerful and sustainable performances.
Installation & Maintenance
How much does it cost to maintain an electric motor?
Around €500 for every 20,000 hours of navigation. This is a general estimate of the maintenance cost for an electric boat motor. This amount may vary depending on the specifics of the engine, conditions of use, and local labor and spare parts rates.
Technologie & innovation
What are the charging technologies for the electrical system?
Charging technologies for marine electrical systems include various options: The classic plug: Allows charging up to 6.6 kW with a 230 V power supply, suitable for slower recharges and generally available on the docks (generally included in the price of your berth) The three-phase plug: Offers charging power of up to 22 kW with a 380 V power supply, allowing faster recharges for boats equipped with three-phase systems. The CCS Combo Plug: Used for ultra-fast recharges, up to 1000V and 600kW, suitable for boats requiring fast charging for extended cruises. These charging options provide flexibility for the varied energy needs of marine electrical systems, by allowing recharge times adapted to different requirements and conditions of use. We work hand in hand with AquaSuperPower, which usually installs a fast charging station when an electrification project is launched in a port.
Environnement
Are electric motors suitable for navigation in protected areas?
Yes, electric motors are well suited for navigation in low-emission areas due to the low discharge of hydrocarbons, quiet navigation, the absence of direct pollution and their energy efficiency. They contribute to the preservation of fragile ecosystems by reducing disturbances to marine wildlife and comply with the strict regulations of these sensitive areas.
Technologie & innovation
Can electric motors be connected?
The entire electric motor is interconnected and available on the Weenav mobile application. This allows you to have clear information and remote management of the boat's energy.
Technologie & innovation
How do electric motors improve boat handling?
The high torque of the electric motors allows optimal maneuverability of the boat, offering an immediate response to steering commands and facilitating precise maneuvers even in difficult conditions.
Environnement
Are electric motors recyclable?
Electric motors and batteries used in marine electrical systems are recyclable. Batteries have an increasingly long lifespan and can be recycled up to 97%. Even after 3500 cycles, they maintain around 80% of their capacity. Materials such as copper, steel, and motor magnets can also be 100% recycled, contributing to sustainable resource management and the reduction of electronic material waste.
Coûts & Financements
What is the long-term profitability of an electric motor?
The profitability of an electric motor is achieved within a period of less than 7 years (subsidies not included). This can be achieved by amortizing savings in fuel and maintenance costs compared to a combustion engine. The return on investment will depend on the use of the boat and the specific operating conditions.
Installation & Maintenance
How do you repair an electric boat motor?
Electric motors are very reliable, so repairs are very rare. However, when they do exist, they often require the intervention of specialists to diagnose and resolve problems. The repair of an electric boat motor is generally done in your usual shipyard, with the intervention of Weenav teams depending on the nature of the failure.
Technologie & innovation
What energy management systems are available for electric motors?
Weenav offers a Garmin energy management system, allowing total controlability of energy management and each component of each subsystem.
Coûts & Financements
How much does it cost to maintain an electric motor?
Around €500 for every 20,000 hours of navigation. This is a general estimate of the maintenance cost for an electric boat motor. This amount may vary depending on engine specifications, operating conditions, and labor rates in your region.
Environnement
Do electric motors reduce noise pollution?
Weenav engines are known for their quiet operation, which contributes significantly to reducing noise pollution. This characteristic is essential for maintaining the tranquility of marine environments and minimizing impacts on sensitive aquatic fauna. Indeed, silence promotes communication between species, prevents behavioral changes, limits physiological stress, physical damage and the impact on the food chain of the marine ecosystem.
Installation & Maintenance
What are the steps to convert a combustion engine into an electric motor?
At Weenav, we start with a feasibility analysis to offer you a commercial offer. Then, we assist you in the search for funding and grants. Once this step has been validated, we begin the certification and in-depth study of the system, including battery sizing and carbon balance analysis. After this study, we design the engine and perform tests on the test bench before installing the system in your usual shipyard.
Installation & Maintenance
Is there a guide for installing an electric motor?
The installation of an electric motor is done by authorized shipyards, specially qualified to work with high voltage systems. This guarantees compliance with safety standards and regulations in force. It is therefore essential that this installation be carried out by experienced professionals in order to ensure safety and compliance with technical standards.
Coûts & Financements
What financing options are available for electric motors?
Zero-interest loans are available through sector-specific organizations. We can put you in touch with them. Banks also offer financing options, but with more traditional rates.
Installation & Maintenance
Where can I find maintenance manuals for electric motors?
The maintenance manual will be supplied with the complete electric motor system when installed. This will allow you to have all the information you need to ensure proper maintenance and extend the life of your electric boat motor.
Performance & Efficacité
How do electric motors perform under difficult conditions?
The torque of electric motors is more powerful than that of internal combustion engines, which allows them to adapt effectively to all navigation conditions. This characteristic is particularly useful in dealing with strong currents, variable weather conditions, and specific propulsion requirements at sea. However, you must learn to use the engine carefully to avoid being surprised by its powerful propulsion.
Performance & Efficacité
Are electric motors sustainable at sea?
Yes, our electric motors are designed for use at sea and are therefore durable. They are certified waterproof and resistant to salt spray, which extends their lifespan. Engines can last up to 100,000 hours, subject to regular and proper maintenance.
Performance & Efficacité
How long does it take to recharge an electric boat motor?
The charging time of an electric boat motor varies according to the type of plug used. At a fast charging station, charging takes a maximum of 1 hour. On the other hand, on a conventional outlet, such as the one often available in a berth, recharging may require overnight, or about 12 hours, depending on the number of batteries to be recharged and their capacity.
Performance & Efficacité
What is the autonomy of an electric boat motor?
The autonomy of an electric motor varies according to the size of your boat and the power required. If you need more power, battery life will be more limited. A prior evaluation of your boat will allow you to obtain more accurate information. For personalized details, we invite you to contact us directly.
